Welcome from the Director

Civic Arts LogoDear Director’s Circle Members,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to join the upcoming Civic Art Museum Study Tour to Dresden and Prague.  As usual, I will be leading this adventure to some of Europe’s finest art museums, architectural wonders, private collections, rare book libraries, gardens and opera performances.

Dresden and Prague are two of the greatest Central European cities. Located as they are where Western Europe blends into Eastern Europe, both were tremendously affected by the political storms and cultural upheavals of the 19th and 20th centuries.  One of the themes of our trip will be the interaction of the great cultural and intellectual institutions of these cities with the political and social winds that have repeatedly swept Central Europe.  With the fall of communism and the integration of Europe, Dresden and Prague have risen anew to flourish.  Almost every cultural institution tells a heroic story of persistence and renewal in the face of wars, revolutions, and political oppression.  We will examine the fascinating interplay of history and these institutions.

As usual with Civic Art Museum Study Tours, we emphasize private access to public collections, visits to private collections, behind-the-scenes tours and expert speakers. Accommodation and cuisine are first rate and the usual warm camaraderie of Director’s Circle members should make this another unforgettable experience.

The number of places is limited and the trip is exclusively for Director’s Circle members.  If you are not currently a member, please call membership services for information on how to join.

This promises to be another most intriguing and educational journey with the Civic Art Museum and I look forward to sharing it with you!

Sincerely,

Director
