Welcome
Dear Columbus Museum and Telfair Museum Supporters,
I would like to invite you to join me for a stimulating eight-day trip exploring art in London and Paris from April 28 - May 6, 2010. The special focus of our trip is American art and artists in those two great cities.
During our four days in London we visit the National Gallery focusing on American artists and the British artists who influenced them, the British Museum which has the largest collection of American drawings outside of the US, a full day in Bath at the American Museum and the Jane Austen Centre and the Tate Britain for visit of the exhibition on sculptor Henry Moore. Our grand finale in London is a private dinner in an artist’s studio once used by Sargent, Whistler and Augustus John.
In Paris we visit the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Rodin Museum and the Orangerie as well as spending a day at Giverny exploring Monet’s house and garden and the brand new museum of impressionism that has been set up by the Regional Council of Giverny in collaboration with the Terra Foundation for the Arts (formerly the American Museum). Our farewell cocktails will be atop the Georges Pompidou center overlooking the rooftops of Paris followed by a gastronomic dinner in Le Pharamond, a wonderful late 19th century restaurant that has retained its original décor of painted glazed tiles.
Our deluxe accommodations are in two four-star hotels; The Crowne Plaza in London and the Mayfair in Paris. The Crowne Plaza is on the border of Kensington and Knightsbridge, a few minutes walk to the Victoria and Albert Museum, Harrods and Hyde Park. The lovely one-acre private garden behind the hotel will be a welcome retreat. The Mayfair is located in the heart of Paris just off the rue de Rivoli and only a few steps from the Jardin des Tuileries and the Louvre.
The program is limited to only 22 people, and will be on a first-come, first serve basis. The final date for signing up is February 15, 2010, so if you do plan on coming, please let us know by then.
This will be a true treat for art lovers and I sincerely hope you will be able to join me.
