ClavertonVisit of the American Museum in Claverton Manor.
The American Museum in Britain is perched high on a hillside overlooking the Limpley Stoke Valley nestled within 130 acres of spectacular grounds and parkland against stunning views on the edge of Bath. Since 1961 this has been the only dedicated museum of Americana outside the United States celebrating the development of American decorative arts.  However, the museum also traces the American way of life through the ages with an array of spectacularly furnished period rooms.  Many of these rooms are fitted with original paneling and floorboards brought from houses in the United States and furnished with fine examples of American furniture and decorative art.  They extend in date from the late seventeenth century to the eve of the Civil War, and in cultural tradition from the English Puritans to the Spanish colonists of New Mexico.

The museum boasts stunning grounds and gardens which include three exhibits: a colonial kitchen garden with a dye-plant border, a replica of part of George Washington’s garden at Mount Vernon, and an arboretum devoted to American trees and shrubs.

MillerVisit of Monet’s House and garden.
The famous house and garden where Claude Monet spent 43 years of his life painting and receiving and inspiring other painters is a must-see for anyone interested in modern art.

Lunch at the Terra Café.

Visit of the exhibition Impressionism along the Seine. Some 60 works painted along the banks of the Seine describe the changing seasons, riverside pastimes, port activities and places where the artists stayed.  The exhibition tells the story of Impressionism and Post Impressionism from Eugene Boudin to Henri Matisse and will include masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, Manet and Seurat.

In the 1880s and 1890s, virtually thousands of American students invaded Paris and its art schools. When the warm summer weather made painting out-of-doors possible, a number of provincial sites proved attractive, especially Giverny where Claude Monet had settled in 1883.  In 1887, a small band of artists, including Willard Metcalf, Louis Ritter, Theodore Wendel, and John Leslie Breck "discovered" the village. Other American artists soon followed and many began to extend their visits beyond the summer months.  The Giverny Museum of Impressionism is dedicated to their achievements.
